Serving this website ourself is a joy! Alas, it is sometimes a pain, too. The graph below shows the number of item requests (hits) per hour throughout the day.
15-Aug-2007 -- We've changed servers (to a 1.2GHz box) and internet providers. Everything went (mostly) smoothly.
27-Apr-2007 -- Lightning struck a tree behind the house. Although our power supply is protected, it seems the DSL modem was zapped through the phone line. Even after replacement, the line is acting fickle. We expect no major service interruptions in the near future.
08-Mar-2006 -- I attempted to retire this server and the internal server simultaneously and replace both with a single faster machine. The faster machine was short some required parts. A two day outage ensued. Not all services have returned, but basic web access has been restored. Future outages are likely, but I'll try to keep them to a minimum.
05-Mar-2006 -- A widespread power outage lasted well over an hour. For some reason the UPS kept the internal services machine and the network equipment up and running, but at some point the web server was allowed to go out. Investigation to follow... -JB
07-Jan-2006 -- With the move to a new house, the server was down for over a week while we awaited an internet supply. With the new supply we also introduce some new web design. Some things will change slowly as we roll out new features. -JB
09-Aug-2005 -- The server has been moved to a new machine, which should result in faster load times. The whole system was put on a UPS today after a lovely thunderstorm reminded me yet again that I was only protected from surge, not from outage... -JB
16-Jul-2005 -- All of the data has been moved to a new drive with lots of additional space for new image galleries and (maybe) family videos. The files are on a new server, so be patient in case of outages -- I'm learning as I go! The whole move should be complete by August. -JB
15-Mar-2005 -- Whoa, dude! I was working on making some updates to the server completely unrelated to the website, and, erm... I think I did something wrong, that's for sure! A two-day outage ensued. Sorry for the blank pages! -JB
