Generated Maps

Maps: I love them. I have loved them ever since I was a child, poured over them, absorbed their tremendously detailed depictions. I may have originally loved maps because my father enjoys maps, but it seems I've progressed into deeper levels of cartomania. As with all things, I have a theory: I am an information addict, and maps have some of the densest information available. Above all maps I love topographical maps, which must be the densest information possible on a map, thus further bolstering my theory.

Therein lies the problem; the maps I love require the most detailed information to create. This information took lots of time to collect, collate, and contour -- maps from such information are not cheap. In the far past I drew topographical maps of nowhere by hand. This process took much time and concentration. Why not let the computer do the tedious part?

Map generation seems to fall into two categories: fractals and modelling. My method is unique (as far as I can tell) and is mostly in the modelling category. What follows are a series of maps generated for the Linux Rally Racing game Trigger. Each night I'll generate 6 of them. They're a little hefty, but they're worth the download (IMHO).

(15-Nov-2005) The map generation seems to be working again. I'm doing some code work in preparation for releasing the code. I'll let you know when I'm done. -JB
